The Molengracht Plaza, located in Pella's central business district, was built to replicate an authentic Dutch square and is over 100,000 square feet. The plaza also includes a 5,720 square foot canal that holds approximately 100,000 gallons of water. The better of two worlds, the Molengracht complex combines a 21st century entrepreneurial spirit with Old World charm. The Molengracht's Grand Opening took place in January of 2001 and has grown to include retail shopping, entertainment, dining, business offices, residential condominiums, retail/office space for lease and an authentic canal and working drawbridge. The Molengracht buildings open onto an attractive plaza featuring a Dutch-Style canal and flower pots.

The City of Pella would like to encourage maximum use of the Molengracht Plaza area.  The public is invited to stroll, sit and mingle in the area.  It was planned as and should be a people place.

As another means of promoting the use of the Plaza, the City Council encourages Plaza use for private functions that do not detract from its public use and appreciation.  The availability of the Plaza for Private Event permits is open to any group, organization, or individual.

In order to allow for private events in the Plaza, a permit system has been created.  A sponsor must comply with and agree to specific requirements to obtain a permit for a private event. These requirements may be found by accessing the Molengracht Plaza Private Event Application.
