Pete and Lucille Kuyper donated this 83-acre park of native timber to the City of Pella in 1958. Located in the northwest corner of the city at the end of Big Rock Road, it has remained in its natural state as much as possible. Information signs guide you through the maze of trails to get you to the Big Rock itself.

Wildlife abounds throughout the park as can be seen by the many animal tracks. Many walkers, joggers and cross country skiers take advantage of the park's solitude. An 1/4 mile educational interpretive trail has been started at Big Rock Park. Signs marking 30 different tree species have already been installed between the parking loop and the rock. During your walk use this trail map and worksheet to write down the names of each tree. When done, this map will show you which ones you identified right.

The shelter house can be rented for $25.
