Animal Control

Domestic AnimalsAnimal Control

Dogs and cats are required to be leashed. Those owners choosing to allow their pet to roam at large will be charged. If animals are picked up and transported to the pound, a fee of $35 will be charged to the owner. This fee is waived for those owners who notify the Police Department that their pet is lost prior to transportation. You can notify the department about your lost pet by calling 641.628.4921.

Nuisance Animals

The Police Department has live traps available for public use in capturing nuisance animals. A citizen can pick up a live trap from the department after giving a $100 returnable deposit and completing a form with their personal information. The department will keep the deposit until the live trap is returned in clean, working order. Traps may be kept for a period of up to two weeks. The Police Department is only able to allow use of the live traps within the city limits of Pella. Citizens may contact the Police Department once they have caught an animal. Depending on the animal caught, the Police Department will facilitate transport.
