Southeast Switching Station was constructed in 2012 out of necessity of Pella's 38 MW coal plant retirement. It is located at 1015 Roosevelt Road. The project connected Pella's East Substation, which previously had been on a foreign radial line, to the remaining Pella 69 kV transmission system. It was a great reliability addition, as it allowed Pella a third source of transmission service as the utility was no longer dependent on its own power plant. There are four 69 kV transmission lines served out of this station: to Pella Clark Street Substation; to Pella West Substation; to Pella Vermeer Substation; and to MidAmerican Energy's Beacon Substation.
