Youth Basketball
Designed to teach the fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting and team play to boys and girls in grades 3-6. Practice sessions are held once a week at the Community Center Gym covering individual instruction and team play. Games are held at the Community Center Gym on Saturdays. The Boys program is in November and December and the girls in January and February. Information forms will be handed out through the schools prior to registration

Coaches Registration Form

Little Tyke Basketball
Open to all girls and boys who are currently in 2nd grade. Held at the Community Center Gym on April 14, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 24, 25, 2008. Each session will meet twice a week for one hour to learn the basic fundamentals of dribbling, shooting and passing. Baskets will be lowered. Information forms will be handed out through the schools. Boys will practice Mondays & Thursdays 4:00-5:00 and girls will practice Tuesdays & Fridays 4:00-5:00. Deadline to register is April 4, 2008 @ 4:30 pm.

Spot Shot Contest
Co-sponsored with the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association. Open to all children ages 8-13. The top two finishers in each age division advance to state competition. The program will be held February 26, 2008 @ 6:00 in the Community Center Gym. Registration fess is $4.00. Deadline to register is 5:00 pm on February 26, 2008 @ 4:30 pm.

Youth Flag Football
This program is open to all children going into 3rd through 6th grade in the fall of 2008. Program date are August 18th thru October 10th. Each team will practice during the first two weeks learning basic fundamental plays on defense and offense. Games and practices will be held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Registration forms will be handed out through the schools prior to registration.

  Registration Form for Flag Football

Little Tyke Flag Football
This program is for girls and boys currently in 1st and 2nd grade in the fall of 2008 and will be held at Caldwell Park. The kids will meet October 18 & 25 & November 1 & 8 from 9:00 to 10:30 am. The program will include fundamentals, basic rules and short scrimmages. Information forms will be handed out through the schools. Deadline to register is October 16, 2008 @ 4:30 pm.

Place Kick, Punt and Throw
Co-sponsored with the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association. Open to girls and boys ages 8-13. Each participant receives two attempts to placekick, punt and throw a football. The two top finishers in each age division qualify for the state competition. The contest is held at the Pella High Football Practice on Saturday, October 4, 2008 @ 3:00 pm. Registration fee is $4.00 and held in September. Registration forms will be handed out through the schools prior to registration.

Youth Soccer
This program is open to all children going into Kindergarten through 6th grade in the fall of 2008. Program dates are August 18th thru October 11th. Each team will have a scheduled practice one night a week for one hour beginning at 5:15 or 6:15 on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. Games are held on Saturday mornings. Registration forms will be handed out through the schools prior to registration.

Little Tyke Soccer
Open to all girls and boys currently in Kindergarten. Central College coaches and players will instruct the very basic skills of soccer, dribbling, passing and shooting. Held at the Soccer Complex on April 5, 12, 19, 26, 2008 from 10 to 11 am. Deadline to register is April 3, 2008 at 4:30 pm.

Youth Baseball and Softball
The Recreation Department working with Dan Vermeer, Rich Schulte, John Roslien, Matt Schulte, Matt Dunsbergen, Wade Van Vark and Brad Rolffs will be offering a program for girls and boys currently in grades 1-4 this summer (2008). The program will be held in the month of June including Saturday mornings at the Jr. High Fields. Each gender will be scheduled to meet a total of 14 times. The program will begin on Saturday, June 7 and conclude on Monday, June 30 with a “Skills Competition”. A copy of the schedule is available at the time of registration. The emphasis of the program will be on developing the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, field positions, game situations and base running. The 3rd & 4th graders will also receive instruction on pitching and catching. At the end of each week a controlled coach pitch game will be held. It is recommended that all 3rd & 4th grade boys wear a protective cup. Each child will receive a t-shirt and cap, the girls will receive visors. Local high school coaches and players will assist staff in conducting the program. The participation fee is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Bats and helmets will be provided but the children may bring their own; if so please make sure their name is visible. The program will make it possible for the kids to work on fundamentals using various drills as well as playing in a game. Registration will begin March 31 and end on April 25. All those that register on or before the deadline will be guaranteed a shirt. Registration is at the Recreation Office in the Community Center located at 712 Union Monday – Friday from 7:30-11:30 am – 12:30-4:30 pm. Youth Tennis
Learn the basics of the game of tennis. Instruction is available for children who have currently completed grades 2nd through 11th. All sessions will be held at the Caldwell Park courts. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude by 12 noon. Registration forms will be handed out through the schools prior to registration.

Hershey's Track Meet
This event is held Saturday, May 24, 2008 (rain May 31) at 10:00 am at the Pella High Track and is open to all children ages 9-14. Each child will be allowed to participate in a total of three (3) events. Top place finishers are eligible to participate in the State Meet. Children ages 7-8 may participate in two (2) events but are not eligible for the State Competition. Registration deadline is May 22nd.
