Pella Parks Memorial Program
The Pella Parks Department maintains 20 parks and recreation areas totaling nearly 170 acres. As the Parks system grows, there are needs for tree plantings and park benches. Some of the parks need trees for shade and to give them little character. Some need benches for patrons to relax and enjoy the park. The park benches that will be used will be the same style that is currently in our parks. You can enhance the city parks by donating to the Pella Parks Memorial Program. A memorial tree or park bench can be purchased for many occasions: in memory of someone who has passed away, in honor of a dedicated service member, to celebrate a birthday, a graduation, retirement or other occasion.
Acknowledgement will be sent to those who donate to the program in the form of a certificate and a 5 X 7 photograph. The City of Pella is not held responsible for tree damage. The Parks Department staff or local nursery will plant the memorial tree in the spring or fall depending on the weather and tree species availability. The tree maintenance will be the responsibility of the Parks Department. Park benches will be placed in City Parks by Parks Department staff.
Tree diameter will be a minimum of 1” and the recommended donation is a minimum of $200.
Recommended donation for a park bench is $700, which includes the bench, memorial plaque and concrete platform.
Additional questions about the memorial tree program should be directed to the Pella Parks Department at 628-4299.

Geocaching
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.
