Preschool Storytime is for children aged 3-5 (children must be 3 years old at time of registration). Children enjoy stories, fingerplays, puppets, and other activities during a 30-minute session. There is a limit of 20 children for each session. Preschool storytimes meet for three six-week sessions during the school year. Call the Children's Department for more details. Registration is required.
Toddler/Parent Storytime introduces age appropriate reading materials to toddlers. During the storytime we will be reading books, singing songs, doing fingerplays, and other activities. There is a limit of 10 child/adult pairs for this storytime and the child must be 2 years old at the time of registration. Toddler/Parent Storytimes meet for three six-week sessions during the school year. Contact the Children's Department for more information. Registration is required.
After-School Programs
Monthly programs during the school year are planned for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Details regarding these programs can be found in the library's monthly calendar or by contacting the Children's Department. Registration is required.
Summer Reading Program
Beginning in June each year, the Children's Department offers an eight-week summer reading program for children entering preschool through 5th grade. During the program there are various events for all the children to enjoy so they have fun while they keep reading and working toward their goal.
Unattended Children
In order to provide for the general welfare of
all persons using the Library, and in order to provide for the general safety of
children using the Library, the following rules and regulations shall be and are
a matter of policy:
All children aged five years or younger shall, at all times, be attended and adequately
supervised by a responsible person, e.g., an adult or a mature adolescent (aged 12
or older).
Children who are older than five years but who are less than eight years of age may
be left unattended for up to one-half hour in the Library, except during scheduled
library programs. The person responsible for the supervision of the child may elect
to be absent for the duration of the program. However, persons responsible for children
who have special problems, related to physical or mental ability, disruptive behavior,
emotional problems, lack of adequate attention span, incomplete social skills, etc.,
shall remain with their children at all times. Responsible adults will return to
the Library for their children and be available when a scheduled event is publicized
as ending.
Children from the age of eight years and older may use the Library unattended, subject,
of course, to other rules and regulations promulgated by the Library concerning behavior,
conduct, and demeanor.
At no time will the Library assume the responsibility of surrogate care provided
for children in the Library.
