Platted into the original plan of Pella and located two blocks west of the square on Franklin Street, this park is a major gathering place for family reunions and picnics. This park was originally designated as a market center for area farmers to sell their produce - thus the name West Market. Amongst the mature trees and expansive open space you will find three shelter houses, picnic tables, restroom facilities, and a butterfly garden.
Probably the park's biggest attraction is a large wooden playground that accommodates all age groups. After being designed by the town's children, it was built by community volunteers in just five days in 1992.
The shelter houses in the park can be rented for $25.

| Art in the Park at West Market Park One of the Art Center’s most popular programs, designed to put art where the kids are. Art Center staff will bring a plethora of art supplies to the parks. They work with students to make anything and everything. Last summer, kids and adults made jewelry, paintings, drawings, collages, wood sculpture, books, weaving, and hats. This will be held at the North Shelter House. |
